Bumpers arrived

Wednesday, 18. August 2010

It took exactly 2 weeks from installing the iPhone 4 Case Program App onto the brand new iPhone until they were delivered this morning. That’s fast if I look at my eMail I’ve got from Apple with the information that it will take until September 7th to be delivered. Nether the less I need to say that the shipment itself was a bit slow, it took 6 days from the Netherlands to my door step. I have to mention that I live just 40km away from the border to the Netherlands.

The Bumpers arrived in the currently common way I receive stuff from Apple – in a huge white (non-recycled!) DIN A4 envelope (like the Magic Trackpad and the Battery Chargers before).

White envelope

The envelope itself contains 1 Bumper. Because of 2 iPhones, I’ve received 2 of them. I’ve no idea why it’s so hard to put both Bumpers into 1 envelope ;)

The Bumper is boxed in an easy to open blister box (you just need to squeeze it softly, then the back “pops” off), but also covered in a little loose plastic bag.

The “installation” itself is pretty easy and described on the back of the blister packaging; simply put your iPhone 4 on the table and put the Bumper from top to bottom around it. That’s it. Maybe pluck it a bit so it does cover the right keys of the iPhone.

Resumé
The Bumper – yeah… this little silicon “device” that should end the area of dropped calls & decreasing bars. Not that I had any issues with such things here in Germany – the reason is simple: The T-Mobile network is very solid and of great quality. But to come back to the bumper itself; it does not fit perfect around my iPhone 4. I’ve the feeling that it’s a bit too large and so it does not cover the power button exactly. This means that you can simply turn your iPhone OFF by just putting it with the attached Bumper into your bag, trousers or whatever. Also, of course, it does not fit in my iPhone stand anymore because it’s too big.

I’m not sure if I will use it. Before getting it, I kinda protected my iPhone using on of these cool and fancy iPod socks that are still available since a couple of years at your Apple or retailers store.

As it’s free, I would say: Test if for yourself if it’s fine for you, but don’t estimate the perfect solution – maybe it’s just mine that is a bit too large. We’ll test the other one in the evening on my wife’s iPhone 4 (it’s hers – so I don’t unbox it for her ;) ).

Ciao

PS. As everytime, I’ve added the shown photos to my flickr account in HiRes, feel free to check them there: http://www.flickr.com/photos/37773250@N02/sets/72157624626414711/with/4904000404/

PPS. It’s my first time using my brand new bought Aperture 3 for this, so the sizes vary more than usual ;) Keeping an eye on this at the next post.

  1. Hi!

I got today my bumper, too. My bumper does fit good. I ordered it only because it is free. (I haven’t got any connections problems here in Germany.)

Turns out that it’s a fits better with the time. Still not sure if I should use the bumper or the iPod sock ;) The Bumer(s) (Apple calls it “Bumpers” on the blister – why? No idea – it’s just on inside ;) ) are not bad. Not perfect, especially if you recored video – seems like the mic is covered easily.
