So there’s this new cat. I don’t think it’s worth the 19$, but ok. Just have to say that Microsoft has shipped it as “Service Pack” for free. My mind. But there are some things in Mountain Lion that makes me rethink again if the Mac is correct platform, or if I should finally switch to Linux or even Windows.
1. Applications
Apple has set by default that you can not run any applications which are not bought within the App Store. That’s a bummer. You CAN switch this off, but as a default setting, I find this pretty odd.
2. TeamViewer
I use TeamViewer on a nearly daily base. I was not able to connect to my client’s PC on Mountain Lion. After 10 minutes I gave up and tried it on my MacBook Air which still runs Lion. Worked instantly.
3. Dock
I don’t like the light pre-installed dock. I never did since Tiger. So I bought CandyBar a couple of years ago and used to use NFR Dock, which is a nice, black themed dock for Mac OS X. Apple has changed the way the dock works and it seems to use a live rendered 3D model instead graphics. The result: I have to deal with a dock that always let me look down and disturbs me. I could blend it out, but I don’t like this function. The black dock was perfect, now it’s gone and even Panic has given up on this. That’s mess.
I guess there is much more, but this were the 3 main issues I have experienced yesterday when I worked the whole day on my ML Hackintosh – and no – it’s not Hackintosh related as I saw these issues also on other people systems who post about in forums and Twitter.

Hi,
Point 1 is not entirely correct: You cannot run applications that you have downloaded off the internet with a browser (wget works fine, compiling yourself works, installing from a cd works…) AND that are not signed by the developer. So, even with the default setting you are NOT forced to use the MAS. It’s still debateable, but i think one should add this distinction.
And, just for the record: I also don’t like the direction the Mac-Platform has taken since 10.6.

1 & 3 are the most troublesome imo. It clearly shows which direction Apple is going with OSX, and that direction is not Poweruser friendly at all. Another annoying thing in Lion (dont know if still present in ML) is that second displays are useless when having an app on fullscreen mode.
Actually i lean towards using Windows for my professional needs again and use OSX for private stuff and OSX specific development only.

With regards to Multiscreen; yes – still the same “mess”.

Yeah i agree with 3), never liked the way that dock looked, luckily the 2D dock built into OS X is pretty nice, just require 2 lines in the terminal to change. Looks ok:
